My works have seen print in two books these past weeks.

My English essay “South of South Korea” was featured in ANI: The Philippine Literary Yearbook (Volume 35: The Pinoy as Asian) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, which was launched on November 26.

My Filipino short story “Tira-tira” got into The Literary Apprentice 2009 of Vibal Foundation and the UP Writers Club (with an introduction by Butch Dalisay). The book-journal was launched on December 4.

Photos Published in Coffee Table Book, Travel Magazine

My photos have appeared in Pitik-Bulag: Letra at Liwanag (A Celebration of Contemporary Filipino Art and Poetry), a coffee table book by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and Balikbayan, a travel and lifestyle magazine by the Asian Journal.

“Pitik-Bulag” was edited by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario (a.k.a. Rio Alma). I served as the photographer for the poets and painters. (Get more information here.)

On the other hand, four of my UP Diliman photos were published in the September 2009 issue of “Balikbayan” magazine. Two of the pics are two-page spreads. (You can view them on my Multiply.)

Judge for UP Manila’s Literary Contest

Last August, I served as Judge in the “UP Manila Sentro ng Wikang Filipino (SWF) Paligsahan sa Pagsulat ng Tula at Sanaysay” contest together with Vim Nadera and Lilia Antonio.

Panelist for the De La Salle Dasmariñas Poetry Workshop

I served as Panelist/Critic in the “Personal/Politikal” Poetry Workshop in DLSU-D yesterday. It was an honor to read the works of seven budding Fellows together with my co-Panelists Emmanuel V. Dumlao, Deborah D. Nieto, and Mariane A.R.T. Abuan.

The workshop was held by the school’s Department of Filipino and Literature and is one of the highlights of their Buwan ng Wika 2009.

Fellow for the 48th Dumaguete National Writers Workshop

Yep, two workshops in a row.

I’ve been selected as Fellow for English Creative Nonfiction in the 48th Dumaguete National Writers Workshop to be held from May 4 to 16, 2009 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

The prestigious workshop — the longest running writers workshop in Asia — is sponsored by the Silliman University and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. National Artist for Literature Edith Lopez Tiempo is the Workshop Director Emeritus.

Fellow for the 9th IYAS Creative Writing Workshop

I’ve been selected as Fellow for Filipino Poetry in the 9th IYAS Creative Writing Workshop to be held from April 26 to May 2, 2009 in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

IYAS is sponsored by the University of St. La Salle, De La Salle University’s Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Staffer for the 48th UP National Writers Workshop

I’ll serve in the Secretariat of the prestigious 48th UP National Writers Workshop to be held from April 12 to 19 in Camp John Hay, Baguio City.

National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario (a.k.a. Rio Alma) is this workshop’s Director.

New President of LIRA

I’ve been elected President of Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika, at Anyo (LIRA), the renowned Filipino poetry group founded by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario (a.k.a. Rio Alma).

I will serve as LIRA’s chief slave for the years 2009-2011. Joining me in the leadership are Vice-President Francisco Monteseña, Secretary Vivian Limpin, Treasurer Enrique Villasis, and Public Relations Officer Ynna Abuan.

Suite of Poems in Likhaan Book

Seven of my Filipino poems made it to Likhaan 2008: The Journal of Philippine Contemporary Literature (UP Centennial Edition), edited by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario.

The book-journal was launched last December 5, 2008 at the UP Writers Day. Likhaan is envisioned to be the Philippines’ most prestigious literary journal.

My poems are bannered by Talà, which was critiqued in the August 2008 issue of Bulawan Online.

Overall Coordinator for STS

I’ve assumed responsibility as the Overall Project Coordinator for the Sining ng Tugma at Sukat (STS, Art of Rhyme and Meter) series of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and my literary org, LIRA.

I previously handled three of the project’s six finished editions (STS Dagupan, STS Mauban, STS Subic) as a local coordinator. The STS program has three events remaining and will continue until December this year.
